Artist Comments:
It was such a fun year to be on staff here celebrating our name change to University as well as our 100th birthday. In Dec the world experienced the first lunar eclipse to occur on the same day as the Winter Solstice since 1638--and I was lucky enough to catch the incredible sunrise the next morning from the West gate parking lot. Our first president George Kirby is beside the wonderful 100 year birthday cake as we all celebrated on Dec 16. World famous bull rider Cody Snyder happily agreed to hold our very own Monty the Gnome at the Calgary airport. Pat Lazo is standing beside his part of the graffiti mural that now proudly hangs just inside the West gate entrance. Our current president Dave Marshall in his period costume complete with top hat is just above Sheldon Kennedy who spoke to staff at a professional day. Our proud new MRU sign went up this year at Mount Royal Gate. To the right is the incredible 100 year ice sculpture with all the dignitaries below. Left to right. Premier Ed Stelmech, MLA Lee Richardson, our very own MRU Professor turned Mayor of Calgary- Naheed Nenshi, President Dave Marshall, student president Robert Jones, and 1957 alumnus Rueben Nelson. I took the new MR University banner picture that was just above our MR College sign. This photograph is currently on display in the MRU art gallery. Gustavo Del Castillo, an exchange student from Mexico who designed "100" logo

Artist statement:
Working at MRU as we celebrated University staus in fall 2009 and our 100 birthday in Sept 2010 allowed me many photo opportunities. All my photographs were taken during 2010 and each is linked with MRU in some special way. I was excited when my photo collage idea was accepted and I endeavered to reflect my pride in MRU.

Artist bio:
I love taking photographs (my friends can usually find me with a camera in my backpack!). My passion grew with the purchase of my first digital camera a few years ago. Some on my photos have been framed and displayed in the MRU Art Gallery.
