Artist Comments:
If you have ever visited San Francisco's Pier 39, no doubt you either saw or heard the California Sea Lions which have taken up residence on the docks.  They have become quite a tourist attraction with hundreds of them swimming or laying on the docks and often barking loudly.  They also like to steal fish from commercial fishing boats.  Because of this, some consider them to be a nuisance.  At the turn of the 20th century, their numbers started rapidly decreasing, but thanks to the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, their numbers stabilized and have since been steadily increasing.
