Under a watchful eye

Artist Comments: The Trumpeter Swan is our largest waterfowl and one of the rarest native birds. It is the embodiment of grace and beauty. Trumpeters were hunted in the early part of the 20th century almost to extinction, for their feathers and meat. The swans have made a comeback but we have lost over 1,900 swans over the past 6 winters, in British Columbia and Washington State, due to lead poisoning. We need to make everyone aware just how fragile our environment is, and strive to save and improve habitat for this majestic birds.
